When Gabriel showed up, she would have to eat quickly so she could take her place next to the headman's wife and keep his cup and plate full of whatever he might desire. At least it wasn't a tedious job, but since he'd brought her, she was presumed to be the appropriate one to attend on him. Sometimes it made her smile, but sometimes it got awkward. He hadn't actually acted like he was attracted to her, and she assumed he would do the same to any woman within arms' reach from the gossip. One or two of the unmarried women had been jealous that he hadn't chosen one of them to take as...whatever she was. Her denials that Loki had entertained her as a man with a woman were ignored as being coy or not wanting to hurt someone's feelings because no man could measure up to a god.
Still, she didn't mind it all that much. He was a lot like his future self, although less polished by the passage of centuries and the changes of the world with them. And sometimes, she almost missed having him by her side as a partner instead of this strange balancing act.
