It's been months since that terrible night when Dean learned just how vengeful, possessive, and jealous Archangels could be. Since then he's suffered through several visits, if one could call them that, with Lucifer. He hasn't seen Gabriel once since that first night even though he's prayed and tried to summon him many times. He'd confronted Lucifer about it thinking perhaps the jealous Devil had done permanent damage to his friend. Lucifer stated that aside from choosing to avoid Dean he was just fine. That hurt to think about; that Gabriel would abandon him like that. That he would leave him to the mercy of his ruthless older brother. Still, he didn't give up. After the last meeting with Lucifer Dean had been left tied up and gagged. He'd prayed for over an hour to both Gabriel and Castiel but neither came to help him. Sam wasn't due back for a day at least so Dean had been forced to partially dislocate his shoulder in order to get himself free. It had taken over two hours but he'd finally managed to free himself from Lucifer's bonds. It's been three weeks since that night and once again Sam had decided to go out for the night. Dean hesitated in wishing him a good night, afraid he was going to have a run in with Lucifer again. In the end he'd bid his brother a good evening and locked himself in his bedroom with multiple angel banishment runes spread out around the room. If Lucifer came back, he'd be ready.

"Yes, and no," Gabriel says promptly, resisting the urge to roll his eyes. "It's not something you can just cut out."

"Can you override it like he did with yours?" Dean sniffles slightly. His voice has a tinge of panic in it, he doesn't like this one bit. This could be a disaster...hell it is a disaster. He's not safe anywhere at anytime. His paranoia was bad before...now it's going to border on insanity.

"I'm not sure you want me over-riding this, since the other one was the fun button," Gabriel points out drily. One that's been gone for awhile, since Gabriel did it so it would fade with time.

Dean looks at him, eyes full of hope. "But there is some way you can help...right?"

"Depends on your thoughts on pain." He's not sure how of if he could affect the rest of it.

"It already hurts whenever he wants it too, even when he's not here he can prod it." Dean admits with watery eyes. "I can't live like this Gabriel..."

Gabriel sighs. "I'll try to figure out what I can do. Even though I'm not sure he would let me anywhere near you if he thought I could undo any of it."

Dean moves over to the bed and drops down onto the surface in a heavy way. He puts his head in his hands and tries to think of a way out of the mess he's wound up in. "This blows in ways you can't comprehend..."

"People very rarely want my brother all over them," Gabriel says drily. "And the ones who do are usually idiots."

"So does that make you an idiot?" Dean snips at him. He's not angry at Gabriel, really he isn't. He's just so frustrated, and if he's honest, scared. He's afraid of what will happen to him if he can't find a way to hide from Lucifer.

"No, because he's my brother and actually gives a shit about me. Unlike the witches who fangirl or boy him," Gabriel snaps.

"Gabriel...he tried to kill you, he almost succeeded. He forced you to stay away from me and lord knows what else...man that doesn't sound like love." Dean says softly yet sadly. He's not trying to fight, he's trying to understand.

"People would side-eye you hardcore for the times you manipulated your brother into staying in the life instead of letting him go, you realize," Gabriel says pointedly.

"Yeah, that's true. But I don't have sex with my brother." Again, he's just trying to understand how Gabe justifies it.

Billions of years of loving his brother is how Gabriel justifies it.

Gabriel frowns at him. "That's because you're a human who's not from a family type known for inbreeding."

Dean sighs and hangs his head in defeat. "So there is absolutely nothing you can do to help me?"

"I said give me time to figure out if I can do something. This isn't one of the cases of I snap my fingers and everything's all better."

Dean nods and just lies back on the bed staring at the ceiling. "Would you like...stay a while? Sam's gone and well...I'd feel better not being alone right now."

"Paranoid about my brother popping out of the woodwork at you?" Gabriel asks with raised eyebrow. That that he can blame Dean, really.

"Yeah." Dean admits with a rueful grin.

"So. Planning at us staring at each other or something?" He needs something to do if he's going to stick around.

"yeah. Uh what we normally do isn't something I'm up for. I don't think I could let you restrain me and not have a panic attack."

"Understandable. Although I need something to do that isn't twiddling my thumbs since the last thing you want is a bored archangel," Gabriel points out.
